There has been a lot of good news lately for the crew over at Microsoft. They just announced their quarterly earnings report and the revenue is up 9% over the same time as last year to a little over $15 billion dollars. Then you look at the news for the last month for 360 hardware sales and their numbers are back up and ahead of the PS3. Yeah boy this is shaping up to be a good looking holiday for 360 sales as they will only go up as we get closer to holiday season.
I do have a question with regards to the rising of the 360 in terms of consoles being sold. Now that MS has dropped the price on all their SKUs for the 360 across the board and you can now get a 360 for cheaper than a Wii, which is sweet by the way. I believe these cuts and the top shelf games that are coming out in the next few weeks will be enough to keep the 360 in second place to finish out the year. My question is what can MS do from here with the 360? Is this the last stand is the question. I don’t think they could lower the price again could they? We certainly don’t need another SKU for the 360 we have enough of those already.
I think the price cut was a great play in terms of getting short term results and clearly it’s paying off right now. It’s only a matter of time before Sony bites the bullet and drops their price and levels the price battle field back to even. Then what MS? The 360 will be back in the same boat as before 3rd place and loosing ground again.
The hopeful gamer in me is hoping that this is the last play from MS to keep the 360 competitive for at least another year before they start leaking rumors that their next xbox is on the way!!! This is the scenario I was thinking of today and it might be a slim dream but you never know. Stranger things have happened in the gaming market, for example who would have ever thought that Wii Fit would have a shot at outselling GTA4??? WTF is that about? If that can happen and it will before the end of the year than my dream for the next xbox coming for the 2010 holiday has a shot too
