Halo Wars The Grand Finale For Ensemble Studios

Category : games

The 360 will soon have the Halo Wars available on the third day of the third month of 2009. Finally Halo fans will get our hands on the “pre” Halo gaming universe. Based on the demo which was a blast to play by the way and all the reviews that are starting to hit the internet. Ensemble studios has come through for RTS fans once again and sadly for so many of us for the very last time

From what I have seen in the online Halo Wars reviews  most gaming sites are giving this final effort from Ensemble Studios some pretty high marks. Right now for example the meta critic score for the game is hovering around 82 with about 26 official reviews being released so far. That is a pretty good score considering the fact that we are talking about a real time strategy game which does not exactly favor the format of gaming console.

Based on the Halo Wars demo which again was a blast to play by the way and the Halo Wars reviews everyone seems to be in agreement that this stripped down version of an RTS has struck just the right balance. I did see some people complaining about the lack of depth to the game in terms of an RTS. I think most of that comes from those hardcore RTS fans that get their gaming fix on their hyped up PCs’.

Seriously people there is just no way you can fit all the RTS features of games like the Command and Conquer or another classic from the Ensemble studios the Age of Empires series. As fun as those games are on the PC for whatever reason just does not seem to translate all that well to hand held controller of the gaming consoles. Anyway like I said for an original RTS game to be getting these good of reviews on a console is a huge achievement and great final swan song for the gang at Ensemble Studios.

Halo Wars Trailer:

This however is thankfully not going to be the final chapter for the folks at Ensemble Studios. Great news for RTS gaming fans everywhere recently broke that about forty to fifty former employees have come together down in Plano, Texas to form a new game development studio. The new Robot Entertainment is already hard at work on an “undisclosed project”. Of course the really exciting part about this new venture of Robot Entertainment is privately owned with no MS looking over it shoulder.

Although they did announce that the Robot Entertainment studios will be servicing Halo Wars post release with possible add-ons and other DLC for the future. The other great news for RTS fans is that this new “undisclosed project” may very well be seeing a future on both HD gaming consoles. With Halo Wars now in the can for Robot Entertainment I am very excited to see what they will bring to the table for the RTS genre for HD gaming consoles.
