XBox Brand Turns 10 Years Old

Wow who would have thunk that 10 years ago the first gaming console from Microsoft by the name of Xbox would have made as big of an impact on the gaming world that it has. Allot of things have changed for gamers in the last 10 years and the Xbox brand has been a major part of that evolution. Nevermind the fan flame wars that shine so brightly on the web just from a gamers perspective it has been a fantastic ten years.

The big thing that I really appreciate about the Xbox and what it did for gaming is the dawn of online gaming and the Xbox online feature. I don’t know of many people 10 years ago that would have thought that online multi-player gaming would be the driving force behind the video game industry as it is now. Let’s face the facts Modern Warfare 3 which just sold over 12 million games in it’s first week  with over 7 million of those going to the 360 is all about the online gameplay and it’s all because of the original Xbox.

Like I said before you don’t have to be an Xbox gamer to just simply appreciate what the system has done for gamers on every platform. I give all the credit in the world to the Xbox for that and I think that’s been the most important contribution to the gaming community in the past ten years. No you could argue that things like Halo which opened up the world of FPS to the masses may be just as big of a thing as online gaming and I would be totally cool with that considering how much FPS games dominate the market now a days.

What are your thoughts on the last ten years of Xbox brand and the contributions to the gaming community that we have seen over the last decade? Perhaps even more importantly what do you think the next 10 years will bring from the Xbox brand? Will there be another console or are they going to shift Xbox games working on PC’s a la Windows 8? Leave your ideas in the comments section down below. For a fun look back at some of the Xbox highlights of the last ten years check out this post over at the VG Chartz site.

Kudos to you webfolk ;-)
